Health Crisis?

What many people don't realize is that a crisis isn't just a state of war in a foreign place overseas, a crisis is simply a time of intense difficulty, trouble, or danger and they happen everywhere. This includes close to home in our community. Right now Nova Scotia is in a health crisis. Recently a video went viral about a cancer patient speaking out about the Nova Scotia Health Care System and the injustice it did to her. Explaining that she waited 2 years to get diagnosed and was turned away by three hospital emergency rooms. This is not the only story, with more people speaking up about the health care situation, there's an urgency to solve the problem. One Annapolis Valley woman fought against the government to bring better practice chemotherapy to Nova Scotia for colorectal cancer and won, and even though this is a step in the right direction, it is not enough. Currently, there aren't enough doctors or room in hospitals for the number of patients in need, and even local nurses are advocating for more hospital beds. Too many doctors and medical professionals are leaving Nova Scotia, and this is resulting in a registry list of 52000 people activley looking for a doctor.

Children's Cancer

The health care crisis is especially affecting kids with cancer. Childhood cancer is even rarer than cancer in adults, and with fewer hospitals and cancer professionals specific to children, children's diagnosis and treatments go overlooked and don't get enough attention. Childhood cancer funding accounts for only five percent of all cancer research funding in Canada today.
