IWK

The IWK Foundation is an organization based out of Halifax, Nova Scotia that provides care to children and women from the Maritime provinces. Their Cancer Research Facility studies how cancer develops and how it spreads so quickly to better understand how to detect it at earlier stages and how to possibly prevent it in the first place. They are also working to create more effective treatments including searching for cancer treatments for each individual child. The IWK Cancer Research Facility focuses on the improvement of quality of life for children, youth, and women diagnosed with cancer. Some of these studies include leukaemia cures using zebrafish studies, preventing chronic pain after breast cancer surgery, population health and cancer epidemiology, measled-based cancer therapy, hepatitis in liver cancer, immune response in cancer, and other clinical trials for childhood cancer.
